Snow at Last (12/19/2009): We have snow in Rutherford College. I put a calibrated wine bottle out last night (that is, I put a piece of tape down the side marked off in inches). The bottle was 13.5 inches tall. I shot like mad as snow mounted through twilight. At 1 AM there was a mound on the table where the bottle was. This morning I got up, got dressed, and got down to the creek to make some photos while the getting was good. Overnight, the snow storm ended as an episode of freezing drizzle that compressed the top of the snow into an icy crust. Snowmelt came off the sunstruck trees like steady rain. The top of the wine bottle had reappeared as I left for the woods. The thermometer said 33 degrees and the winometer stood at just under 10 inches. Here's a quick folio of the morning's take (the one of the fence is from last evening). Click any image to lean in for a closer look. Stay warm.
