A Transit of Venus Begins

As the 2012 transit of Venus began, the planet moved across a faint prominence and then onto the face of the Sun. The usual compositing technique that shows bright prominences on the limb and dark filaments against the Sun's bright face also reveals the entire planet in faint silhouette.
